Adobe announced a ton of major AI features at the recent MAX conference.

The event was divided into two keynotes (more than 3 hours total on YouTube): new features and upcoming sneak peaks.

New features:

  • New and improved Firefly image generation model. Apart from on the Firefly website, the model is available inside Photoshop, Ilustrator and Adobe Express (Adobeā€™s answer to Canva).

  • Adobe Illustrator: Generate vector graphics in illustrator. In other words, you can generate images where every element is easily editable. Also, you can now generate images in the style of another image.

  • Adobe Premiere: Edit videos using the text from the transcript of a video; if youā€™ve tried Descript before, itā€™s based around a similar feature.

  • Adobe Express: Generate fully editable templates based on text prompts.

Upcoming features:

  • Project Stardust, Adobeā€™s next-gen AI photo editing engine.

  • Fast Fill: Generative fill will be able to add or remove objects (including people) from video.

  • Draw and Delight: Generate an image based on text prompt AND a sketch of what youā€™re looking for.

  • Project Neo: Enable creators to create 3D objects in 2D designs without technical expertise of 3D creation tools.

  • Other sneak peaks: Scene Change (move subjects in a video to new locations), GlyphEase (create fonts with AI), Poseable (get the perfect pose for AI generated characters), Res Up (increasing resolution with AI), Dub Dub Dub (audio translator), See Thru (removing reflections in an image).

Character AI launches Group Chats

You can now talk to multiple humans and AI characters in the same room on Chatacter.ai. Just like a regular group chat, but with AI characters as well.

For context, Character.ai is one of the biggest AI platforms with over 200m monthly visits to its website. Itā€™s a ChatGPT-like product but for talking to characters like Elon Musk and Super Mario.

ElevenLabs gets dubbing feature

Eleven Labs is an AI company specialised in text to speech. The new feature is a voice translation tool to break down language barriers for content.

Go ahead ā€“ upload a video of someone speaking and test it yourself here.

Sidenote: I recently tested all the most popular text to speech generators (article coming soon) and Eleven Labs had, in my opinion, the most realistic and human-like voices. Their context-awareness feature seems to work well. This makes me extra excited about their new dubbing feature.

Pluginsā€™ place in the current AI landscape

The latest State of AI 2023 report was just released. In it, I found an interesting section on how ā€œagentsā€, such as plugins, fit into the bigger picture of AI.

Basically, plugins were highlighted in the report for the immediate impact they allow LLMs to have in the real world.

The most immediate way LLMs can have an impact on the economy today is when they are enabled to execute calls to diverse external tools. The most obvious tool is a browser, allowing a model to stay up to date, but practitioners are fine-tuning language models on API calls to enable them to use virtually any tool [ā€¦] we have seen multiple tools devised by industry and the open source community, most notably ChatGPT plugins, Auto-GPT and BabyAGI.

What I think:

The 1,000+ plugins for ChatGPT launched in the past 5 months is testimony to the diversity of use cases and interest in connecting LLMs to third-party applications.

However, thereā€™s crucial components which will need to be improved by OpenAI before this platform will achieve major traction, though. These include improving quality control, user friendliness, and monetization opportunities for developers.

Nevertheless, I think ChatGPT plugins is one of the most interesting platforms right now to observe how users, LLMs and external apps can and will work together eventually.

Also, feel free to check out my list of 7 interesting trends in AI research from the State of AI 2023 report. If you want to go deeper, the full report is a fascinating read and covers not just research in AI but also covers industry, politics, safety and predictions as well.

ā€ˆChatGPT pluginsā€ˆ

Thereā€™s now 1,115 ChatGPT plugins, of which 10 were launched in the past 7 days.

Announcement:
