ChatGPT is trending again

Wanted to touch on something I consider quite noteworthy in the context of OpenAI and ChatGPT. Global interest in ChatGPT has recently spiked, judging from the number of Google searches, with the highest increase since mid-March.

Here’s what I think are the reasons we’re seeing renewed interest:

  • People going back to work after holidays in Europe and US driving increased use of ChatGPT. The popularity of ChatGPT for work seems obvious at this point; the visitor pattern on whatplugin also supports this, with double the traffic on weekdays compared to weekends.

  • OpenAI has had multiple feature drops lately, most notably making Custom Instructions free to all users and Code Interpreter/Advanced Data Analysis available to all Plus users.

  • OpenAI just launched their Enterprise plan, which is likely drawing strong interest from the B2B segment.

  • Last week there was a renaming of ChatGPT’s most powerful feature. From the confusing “Code Interpreter” it's now been more aptly named Advanced Data Analysis, which I think draws more attention and makes it appealing to try for a wider audience.

 Dario’s Picks

  • OpenAI launches ChatGPT Enterprise, potentially solving substantial obstacles to AI adoption.

    • Major companies (80% of Fortune 500) have already adopted ChatGPT to some extent, using it to accelerate and even redefine business processes. The Enterprise plan offers increased privacy and flexibility for businesses using ChatGPT.

    • Main features: unlimited usage of GPT-4 and Advanced Data Analysis, four times longer context windows (longer prompts and follow ups), shareable team chat templates.

    • Boosted security and privacy: OpenAI does not train on the Enterprise customer’s data, conversations are encrypted in transit and rest and the plan is SOC 2 compliant. Companies should still review the data policy to ensure it’s aligned with their own security standards.

  • Search giant Baidu launches Ernie, China’s answer to ChatGPT, reported reaching 1 million users in the first 19 hours.

    • The launch came after the Chinese Governent approved Ernie bot, as well as a number of other AI companies.

    • Erine has an app (available only in Chinese) and requires a Chinese number to register and log in.

    • China’s new AI guidelines state that companies must “adhere to the values of socialism”, and the source data for training foundation models must come from sources deemed legitimate by the Government.
